We Should Enjoy ChatGPT While We Still Can
I remember my grandfather talking about the evolution of the automobile. He had been around to see the first few puttering down the road, scattering horses and chickens. And just before he passed away, he had a beautiful blue ’57 Ford that he drove like he stole it.
Now, every generation has many technologies they have witnessed from birth to old age and sometimes death. (Anybody still got their iPod?) Being from the exact center of the Boomers, (I don’t believe in this Boomers I and Boomers II bullshit) the technology that I have witnessed through amazing growth is the Internet. I used search features in old dial-up BBSs, and Spider, the text-based precursor to modern search engines. I used Archie and then Yahoo, followed by a host of others. I can remember the first time I heard the word Google used as a verb.
I remember when search engines were search engines.
When they scoured the internet looking for instances of your terms or phrases, and returned the most relevant and/or popular. And you rarely needed to look past the first page of the results.
